One of the major steps towards towards capturing the feel of a particular time period is using items in their period packaging. Over the years, people have taken to wrapping things in kraft paper in an effort to disguise their contents. In the field, everyday items are the hardest to go without which makes it all the more important to find a way to incorporate it into your impression.
The style of box that originally contained the dentifrice is no long
er made, which means that we had to make them from scratch, by hand. They are a very labor intensive item to produce.
We had originally intended to include a tooth powder, but found that there were substantial legal requirements regarding consumer nutraceutical products. While these are sold empty, they can be filled and reused to exercise period dental care in the field.
